Djibouti Liveaboard diving aboard the Boreas of Katharina gets you close to Whalesharks. These magnificent creatures are spotted in the bay of tadjoura from late October to mid February. The 38-metre schooner-rigged sailing yacht Boreas of Katharina offers an itinerary that winds its way around more than 140 miles of unexplored East African coastline. However, this is also more than just an itinerary, it is a veritable voyage of exploration with much more than a whiff of old-style adventure to it.
Boreas of Katharina is a three-masted schooner built in 1998 and completely restored in 2008. Her mahogany hull, iroko deck, mahogany interiors and classic lines ensure she exudes wonderfully retro charm. There are nine passenger cabins aboard, one of which is a superior suite forward with a king-size bed. Three have double queen size bed and single upper bed, three are double with queen size bed only and two have twins. All cabins have private en suite bathrooms, showers and air-conditioning. The inside dinette opens into a roomy saloon with tables, sofas and a bar. The exterior areas extend along teak decks kitted out as sun bathing and restaurant areas. Wind and kite surfing and fishing are popular sports aboard as is snorkelling which is ideal for getting close to the whale sharks. Boreas of Katharina has two compressors and three tenders, one a 6.0-metre WAV inflatable with a 140 hp Yamaha engine and 2 WAV 4.70 meters with 40 Hp Yamaha Engines.
