Monsoon | Maldives Liveaboard | Scuba Diving Holiday

(Indian Ocean - Maldives )

from: £1895 inc. flights*

Monsoon has all the hallmarks of Tornado Marine fleet quality. And this spectacular 36m steel hull motor yacht brings luxury liveaboards to the remote Northern Atolls of the Maldives. Monsoon takes pride of place as the first liveaboard to operate in the northern atolls 80 nautical miles north of male. The crew have hunted out all the best dive sites in this unexplored region of the Maldives including the now famous Hanivaru lagoon.

Monsoon is stable and spacious. The dive deck is vast with more than ample space for all types of divers. Photographers and technical divers can kit up at ease side by side. A Haskel pump delivers custom nitrox blends. Monsoon sleeps 22 guests in twin cabins with en suite, small fridge, safety box and of course air con. After a quick jacuzzi on board and a tasty dinner, the cocktail deck is the place to watch the sun set over the wonderful sea scape of islands and reefs. Monsoon is also one of the few Maldivian liveaboards to use Ribs for total dive flexibility and safety at all times.

Monsoon does not stick to a fixed itinerary, enjoying the best of the Lhaviyani, Raa, Baa and Noonu atolls throughout the year. Over the summer months, Baa atoll is the place to head and witness huge numbers of manta feeding in the plankton filled lagoon of Hanivaru. Other hallowed names such as Fushifaru Kandu or the Kuredu Express are on the itinerary where grey reefs dart through the currents and columns of fish. Monsoon enables you to live the ultimate Maldivian dive adventure knowing you are in expert hands. Shorebased extensions can also be arranged at the end of the trip in case one week just is not enough.

Please be aware that local regulations mean that diving in Hanivaru lagoon is no longer permitted. Monsoon's resident dive guide is certified to lead snorkelling excursions in Hanviaru and, as most of the manta are shallow, this is often the best way to experience the best manta encounters and photo opps.

My husband and I wanted a week on a live-aboard in the Maldives and chose MV Monsoon as it was part of Kuredu Island, where we have stayed previously. What an excellent choice we made. Chris ran a very safe and comfortable boat and the crew were always there to help with everything. The food was of a very high standard and the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The diving was excellent, travelling to four of the northern atolls and seeing incredible fish life and corals. We will definitely be back Liz R

I am sure you won't be surprised to hear that we had a fabulous time. Luckily the weather was good (it had been quite windy for the previous three weeks). Re diving my husband was delighted to do his aow qualification and there were 3 dives a day and on three days they did four as they did night dives. As a non diver I was able to do snorkelling and probably did three a day, which I really enjoyed. The only down side was going out on the ribs, which have no ladders so once had to be hauled out which was not elegant! But provided us with a laugh. The staff were excellent, food and cleanliness could not be faulted. Chris the boat organiser/dive master was excellent. My only problem with this experience is that it set such a high standard I will be nervous of choosing anywhere else. Jane Oddi

My wife passed her PADI Open Water just before this trip and we couldn't have made a better choice for our first dive holiday together. Our week on M/Y Monsoon took us on a fabulous tour of the Northern Maldivian atolls. We packed in 20 dives and one amazing snorkel. Diving Highlights; Shark-tastic action at Orimas Thila, Snowflake bubbles at Christmas Tree Rock, Morays on the move on Dhigu Thila night dive, Manta Ballet at Hanifaru Bay and a Kuredu Express rollercoaster! Our cocktail mix of 21 guests was drawn from England, N.Ireland, Germany, Russia and Brazil and Boat Manager Chris and Dive Guide Jukka saw to it that everyone had a safe and exhilarating experience every time. Monsoon on-board accommodation is to a high standard and the crew were both friendly and efficient. The Dhoni boys were ever-helpful with our dive kit and always close by when we surfaced. I'd strongly recommend the Maldives and especially this boat to any diver. Ken Ryder

Very much enjoyed both Liveaboard Monsoon and Resort Kuredu. Boat leader Chris Trickey was excellent - very knowledgeable, organised and amusing - the standard of diving hospitality and food were excellent. The resort was very relaxing and apart from a few glitches with the aircon accommodation was excellent, the food was of a very high standard. Andrew

The week in the Maldives was absolutely wonderful! Very nice dive sites, lots of things to see and the guide Chris was excellent. The boat was spacious, food was great and the other guests were really nice! A very relaxing week and I have nothing at all to complain about! Will definitely go again! :) Louise

Dear Tristan, I just wanted to give you a feedback about the trip- it was really great- the diving was well organised and both dive guides safe and really nice. They took good care of the different levels of the divers and there was a happy atmosphere on the boat. Diving was beautiful Monsoon local staff were very helpful, the boat was clean and in good condition. Food was awesome. Kat Kat

Have been on many liveaboards and have to say this is by far the best. Nothing is to much trouble, diving is excellent, food is superb and the boat is amazing. Dive deck is 10/10 as is Chris, boat manager and dive leader. Rarely do you come across someone with such knowledge and passion for diving, who genuinely cares about the guests experience. Go, you won't be disappointed! Andrey Baker

Just wanted to let you know that Harriet and I had a great dive holiday. Monsoon is very well equipped and crewed and the diving was fantastic, especially the dive guiding from Chris Trickey and Jan. I would definitely recommend this itinary to other divers. The BBQ on the beach was so romantic I even decided to propose! Richard Booker

23 November 2012

My liveaboard experience was exceptionally good this year, I have nothing but good things to say about the dive guides, crew and the galley staff. I am looking forward to next year. Peter Shore

23 November 2012

I am a disabled diver (difficulty walking: I was concerned on two counts prior to the trip. Firstly, could I manage the dives and secondly, would assistance be available moving from aircraft to aircraft. Well, I had no need to be concerned. The assistance provided was superb and went without a hitch. On board the crew help me enormously and without asking. They were there to provide help and without their help then I would have struggled on some days. The crew made my dive holiday take place. Chris and Jan deserves a special mention also: their help was invaluable helping me kit up on the ribs and be ready by the time we reached the dive site - thank you all. The downside was the calmness of the seas that meant mantas and sharks were few to be seen and the water was murky for much of the week but neither you nor Chris & Jan could change that. At the end of the day I did see mantas and I did see two kinds of sharks. Would I go again on Monsoon - I would jump at the chance. Dr Philip Lockwood

22 November 2012

This was my third trip on Monsoon and an excellent trip it was. Manta rays, sharks, dolphins, it's fair to say the diving was something special. Chris and his crew run an excellent boat, beautifully organised and always delivered with a constant smile. In my 13 years of diving this has to be the best liveaboard boat I have been on. Chris's knowledge known no bounds, his briefings will teach you a lot about diving and even more about the marine life. If you want an amazingly relaxing week, with stunning diving, on a boat that runs like clockwork and food to die for ... you can't go wrong with a spell on the Monsoon! Ian Brooks

22 November 2012

This was my first ( but not last ) life a board. WOW ! loved it, I\'m pretty sure you wouldn't be able to better the hole package, Hospitality, Customer care & food. The diving Host was brilliant Chris was great he looked after any query with ease. Paul Bryan

13 November 2012

Just had a great week on Monsoon. Sea conditions (visability) were not good but the crew, especially Chris, worked hard to get the best out of our dives. Monsoon is a superb, well run boat. I need to go again! Ian Wood

09 November 2012

My second time on Monsoon. Excellent crew! Brilliant diving and experienced guides with awesome good local knowledge! Highly recommended! Alise Alise

06 November 2012

The Monsoon was extremely well run. The crew were excellent and the dive guides ensured a great diving and social programme (Island visits, etc). I would recommend the Monsoon to any intending to dive the Maldives. Kuredu is a great venue, especially the O Villas and Spa. There is plenty to do, and Pro Divers were fantastic. The only down side was the sea plane transfer from Male to Kuredu which was delayed 3 times. Though we were well looked after in the terminal kevin

Monsoon has got to be the best liveaboard I've been on! It's a lovely boat, great crew, great food, great diving and fantastic, knowledgeable dive guides - Chris and Heiko. Would definitely recommend and hope to return soon. Thanks. Wendy Wendy Hall

14 August 2011

This was my second time on Monsoon. Standard of the boat, food and guides was excellent again. The range and quality of food is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble. This is a great way to dive the Maldives, especially if like me you're travelling alone and don't want to be surrounded romantic couples! Fantastic holiday. Claire

20 May 2011

It really was a wonderful trip. Everyone on board was very pleasant and I managed to remember to say thank you a lot ( sco re ay), Chris and Heiko were fantastic. Would certainly go with Scuba Travel again, very well organised. We saw pretty much everything - the marine life was abundant and looked amazing what a great trip. Desmond

12 May 2011

This trip and its destination was first class throughout. Both dive guides went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure all guests were catered for. The crew very helpful and courteous. All meals were of an extreme quality and always more than enough!!! Would not hesitate to recommend this itinerary and boat to anyone if asked. Thank you Colin

12 May 2011

All staff and crew were extremely professional and nothing was to much trouble for them. Always smiling and on hand for any situation. Could not have been looked after any better and I have been on many liveaboards. Thank you Gill. Gillian
