Sharm el Sheikh
Dive Resorts
Sharm el Sheikh has come to be the very definition of scuba diving holidays in Egypt, with hot dive sites and sightings all year round. There is just no where quite like it! Sharm is arguably Egypt's most glamorous diving resort, filled with hotels to suit every budget. All ages and tastes are catered for with plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes and beaches along the way. Scuba Travel works with a carefully selected range Red Sea dive centres to ensure that everyone sees Sharm in all her beauty. Learn to dive in a friendly and relaxed environment or join the day boats to log some bottom time to remember. Technical, recreational or even just an avid snorkeler, the extensive reefs around Sharm will delight.
Sharm has an tremendous concentration of the Red Sea's top dive sites all within a short boat ride. The Straits of Tiran - Gordon, Woodhouse, Jackson and Thomas - are well known for their fun drift dives, lush coral gardens and thronging fish life. Turtles, red anemone, groupers and even hammerheads can be found here. Ras Mohammed forms the local Marine Park, whose wall dives are dramatic and daring. Swirls of barracuda, batfish, snapper and napoleons - these are just some of the regular sightings. Wreck divers can weave through the likes of the Thistlegorm and Dunraven while tekkies can plunge natural canyons. The local dive sites are no less impressive. With shallower plateaus, learning to dive is enjoyable in the warm water. Don't skip a night dive anywhere along the coastline or you will miss hunting lion fish, Spanish dancers and octopus!

We had a fab week in Egypt and would not hesitate to recommend Scuba Travel - fantastic service !
Sharm is a fab choice whatever time of the year with water and air temps not below 21 degrees on average in the winter and up to 29 degrees in the water at the height of summer. The warm weather starts early in April and carries on well into November. The Egyptian winter is short but does bring the added advantage of quieter reefs. Do plan your trip in advance if you need to travel during school holidays.
Diving Highlights
Throughout the year there are seasonal variations in the marine life, but do keep an eye out for some of these regular sightings:
- Stone fish
- Schooling snapper
- Hammerheads & tiger sharks (summer)
- Napoleons
- Red anemone
- Dolphin
Top dive sites: Shark & Yolanda, Jackfish Alley, Anemone City, The Gardens, Jackson, Thomas. Thistlegorm, Dunraven
Scuba Travel Tips
We can usually arrange trips from a number of regional departure airports for the Sharm resorts. You will normally need a visa to enter Egypt if you plan to dive in Ras Mohammed or Tiran or further (ie. Dunraven and Thistelgorm). Due to a quirk in the immigration rules, if you do not want to dive these areas you can enter the Sinai (but not mainland Egypt) without a visa.
