Scuba Travel works with several dive resorts in the Maldives, all which are situated a stone's throw from sublime dive sites in the Indian Ocean. Add in the chance for manta and whaleshark encounters and a Maldives diving holiday jumps to the top of your must visit list! The Maldives has a special magic that brings people back year after year, but you don't need be a honeymooner to get the most out of this luscious location. Whether you want to dive, dive, dive or just relax under the hot sun, Scuba Travel can tailor your Maldives holiday to suit your needs and budget. The allure of the white beaches and brilliant blue seas impossible to resist.

There must surely be no better place for diving in this region of the world. The atolls barely skim the water line, inviting in divers and snorkelers. In seconds you can go from your beach front bungalow or private jacuzzi and dip into the warm soothing waters. Beneath the waves awaits a whole host of fish life. Most resorts have a house reef which is ideal place to start your diving or brush up on exisiting skills. Daily diving is conducted by dhoni (traditional maldivian boat) and each island has a range of dive sites to suit every level of experience. You can find vast schools of snapper, barracuda and goat fish, enjoy being whisked along by a brisk current in the Maldives or just sit back and marvel at the beauty as giant manta fly into cleaning stations. The Maldives won the Dive Destination of the Year at the prestigious Dive 2007 awards and it is easy to see why.

Everything was perfect and everything we asked to see we did, Whale sharks, Mantas, reef sharks, Napoleon Wrasse, frogfish etc.

You can dive all year round in the Maldives with constant water temperatures at an inviting 28 degrees. Winter sun is always popular and between November to April it plans to book well in advance. The summer months tend to offer great value, especially if you need to book during the long summer holiday. There is a slightly higher chance of rain during the summer but storms are often short and pass quickly.

Diving Highlights

Drift diving is what the Maldives are famous for and there are plenty of spots where you can whizz along the reef looking for big fish. But the diving is not just about fast currents. Catch the manta on a cleaning station or hunt out macro on a thila. Our favourite sightings include:

  • Manta
  • Whalesharks
  • Turtles
  • Morays
  • Marble rays

Top dive sites to visit: Kuredu Express, Christmas Tree Rock, Anemone Thila, Elliadhoo house reef, Maagiri Caves, Lion's Head, Rasfari
