Mexico Dive Resorts

Mexico is one of the Caribbean's most intriguing dive destinations - the cenotes have made the western Caribbean coast of Mexico world famous and you have to experience the crystal clear waters and easy cave penetrations for yourself. But this is not all there is to discover! Direct flights with a range of charter and schedule airlines make getting to Cancun straightforward and mean you can plan your dive holiday around your diary. And once you land you find yourself in a magical land of hot breezy days and diving that is guaranteed to delight. Thousands of years' of culture blend with a flexible dive schedule designed to suit everyone.

Scuba diving in Mexico is as varied as it gets. Start with the wonderful reef dives around Cozumel and Playa del Carmen. Here you can find sites to suit all dive experience levels - beginners right through to the experienced instructors. Steep walls and drifts dives give way to a second dive on shallow scenic reefs. Eagle rays, turtles, nurse sharks and even whalesharks (Jun-Sep) can all be found on the reef, amid schools of smaller reef inhabitants. Look closely for arrow crabs and spiny lobster. Head to specific dive sites and you can dive with bull sharks! And then there are the cenotes. Due to the open airy structure, you don't need a cave diving certification to experience this incredible world underwater but of course, if you are into tek or cave diving, why not take it to the next level!

This was my 6th trip to Cozumel and I find more marine life than ever. Every dive we saw turtles and nurse sharks, and of course a lot of tropicals. Cozumel is a must and drift diving is an experience you must not forget - Mario

You can dive in Mexico all year round. The air temperature drops slightly in January to a warm mid 20s but is generally around 30 for the rest of the year. There is slightly more chance of rain in our summer months but the water temperatures are a constant 27-30 so no matter when you go to Mexico, you only need your warm water gear and away you go!

Diving Highlights

The cenotes are one of the most famous aspects of diving in Mexico but this is not all there is! The reefs are packed with marine life big and small:

  • Cenotes - Dos Ojos and Chac Mool are top sites
  • Bull sharks
  • Whalesharks (Jun-Sep)
  • Eagle rays
  • Big snapper schools
  • Turtles

Top dive sites to visit: Palancar Reef, Punta Sur and Santa Rosa Wall are great dives in addition to the cenotes

Scuba Travel Tips

Whilst we love the diving the food in Mexico is also tasty and a real highlight once the diving is done. Eating out is great value too. Leave yourself some time to explore Cozumel island one evening and catch the last ferry back in the evening. You do not need a visa to enter Mexico with a valid (6 months mins to run) UK passport.
