This nomadic itinerary permits you to discover another region protected from mass tourism, where direct contact with the local people and the natural environment helps the diving safari retain all its originality. A bangka (a Philippino outrigger boat) is used as your mode of transport and the base for your diving, 4 stages, a selection of small hotels and excursions, these are the ingredients for the Camiguin diving safari. The Team Abyss guides and Philippino mariners will reveal some of the secrets of Duka Bay, Camiguin and Anda.
The diving in this region is extremely varied: macro fauna is constantly found on beautiful coral plateaus or in the black sand lagoons. Abrupt drop offs or gentle slopes, multiple underwater scenery of volcanic origins. This safari will satisfy avid divers who wish to experience different diving opportunities and discover preserved sites. Punctuated by visits on land, this safari is equally suitable for non diving companions and groups. The uniqueness of the Camiguin safari stems from the mixture of dive types: sloping drop offs, muck dives, drift dives along a 13 km wall, caves and crevasses dug into the reef. All the dives will allow you to discover many species amongst the 800 varieties of hard and soft coral and the 2500 varieties of coastal fish of which certain are very rare: glass catfish, dragon fish, leaf fish, mandarin fish and even pygmy seahorses. The fauna is abundant and we regularly encounter larger fish life such as tuna, barracuda, reef sharks and rays.
The choice of our hotels on this diving safari is based on our perception of a dive trip: charm and conviviality are more important than luxury. Most of the accommodation choices offer all the necessary comforts, however preference is given to the scenery, quality of service and optimal location relating to the dive sites visited on your excursions. The hotels selected for the Camiguin safari offer good comfort, although sometimes rustic, yet always in an authentic style.
The diving at Duka Bay, Anda and Camiguin is suited to experienced divers holding a PADI Advanced Open Water or equivalent, with 30 logged dives. The currents and depth of certain dives are factors that may occasionally make these dives more technical than usual. It is however possible for PADI Open Water divers to complete their PADI Advanced Open Water diver certificate during this safari (please consult us prior to safari). Contrary to the North of the country, the Camiguin area does not have a pronounced monsoon period. Therefore, showers are principally at night and of short duration. Water and air temperatures are similar all year round.
