Just after Komodo are the Alor Islands followed by Flores... and together they form Indonesia's secret jewels. Dive here to discover Indonesia's diving gems as you push the boundaries of dive exploration. Accessible for all levels of diver, in between the stunning lush islands are dive sites that few people witness with all manner of marine life from big to small! All around are virgin reefs and great corals. So if you want to escape the crowds, be delighted by dive after dive and surround yourself in seemingly endless variety, try diving the Gems of Alor on one of our sumptuous Indonesian liveaboards.

The area spanned over the course of the Alor and Flores itineraries is large and no two trips are quite the same. There is also a huge variety in the types of diving you will find under the jade waters with more dive sites than you could ever hope to cover in a single trip. In Ternate a giant arch forms the centre piece to a breathtaking underwater topography. See for yourself the bubbles gently escaping from underwater volcanoes or plunge the walls of Pulau Babi for high octane diving. The Pantar Strait is home to the larger pelagics including manta, eagle rays and sharks. Tuna, jacks, giant groupers all school in vast numbers and are no less impressive than the larger pelagics. Keep your eyes peeled for mola mola even! The black sands and rubble are made for muck diving and hunting out the microscopic marine life that underpins all oceans and seas. For some divers the critter dives in Teluk Waihinga or Beangabang Ba rival anything you could find in Lembeh. Ghost pipefish, cockataoo waspfish and sea horses are just some of the inhabitants that hide in the sands.

With so much diversity between sites, the Gems of Alor itineraries are open to all levels of diver although some sites are subject to fast currents so divers should be comfortable with drift diving. Photographers are well catered for and nitrox is available although technical divers are not supported due to the remote nature of the route. Cruise through the jagged mountains and steep valleys to discover adventure, excitement and crystal clear waters on an extraordinary itinerary you will not want to end.

Arrival and Departure
Depending on which liveaboard you will be joining you may need to overnight in Indonesia at either end of your holiday. Bali generally works best with the return domestic flight you will need to catch.

Flores
Maumere is not technically part of the Flores region but is where your diving adventure starts. There is the Waiterang Wreck, surrounded by jacks and batfish. Lembata is a volcanic area with sheer walls, caverns and great pelagics. Serbete and Gedong are also great for manta, sharks, snapper, trevallies and napoleons. White tips, black tips and eagle rays are all seen regularly. Lewoleba Bay in contrast is all about the macro.

Alor
To the east of Alor are the Pantar Straits. There can be swift currents here but the Arch, Kal's Dream and Babylon are must do dives with chances to see hammerheads. Never Land is the place to see mola mola. And Current Alley is ideal for reef sharks. Like macro? Then dive at Boardroom, Mandarin House or Crab City. Ghost pipefish, Pegasus sea moths, mandarin fish, orangutan crabs... the list goes on

Dismbarkation Points
All boats return to Maumere
