One of main attractions to the Northern lights itinerary is the sheer diversity of the diving. There are several thila dives, where you descend onto a submerged reef, hook in and watch the action unfold. Amba thila, Thankandhoo, Nellaidhoo, Anemon Thila... these are just some of the shark spots that are waiting for you. At Baarah Blue and Maarandhoo Blue head out to look for hammerheads as the baracuda swirl on the drop off! Or experience the thrill of diving through Amba Canyon or Bodu Cave. Stop and watch manta swoop in on the reef. Or look for leopard and guitar sharks cruising along the sandy slopes.
The Northern Lights itinerary will thrill any diver - if you have never been the Maldives before cherry pick the ultimate dive sites as you journey between one adrenalin rush to the other. If you are a seasoned Maldives diver you will appreciate the endless quality of diving, stopping at only the very best sites throughout the region. Currents in the northern areas tend not to be as strong as around Male making this an accessible itinerary for all divers but do bear in mind there is some drift diving. Reef hooks are handy in the Maldives too and an essential tool for any photographers wanting to capture that awesome shark or manta shot.

A normal Northern Lights itinerary will dive at the following areas but the exact dive sites and order will vary week by week depending on what people enjoy, where the best sightings have been and reflect diver experience levels.
Haa Dhaalu atoll
Look for leopard shaks in Haa Dhaalu! They often shelt from the currents at Anemone thila or Keylakuna thila. After the shark fixes, the time comes to look for manta in Haa Dhaalu.
Nellaidhoo thila is a must, especially with your camera! Manta soar above a school of bat fish and giant travellies. Macro lovers will also be delighted with the wealth of nudibranch and flabellina, espcially at Theefarido thila.
Bodu Cave is an unusual dive and easy for all experience levels. Dive through the shallow cracks as the light bounces off the walls - simply spectacular!
Haa Alifu atoll
Barrah Thila brings you face to face with schools of blackfin barracuda and Spanish mackerel. There are also yet more manta! The corals here are also some of the most beautiful with pinnacles a plenty to work your way around.
You will normally leave the boat after breakfast on your last day and be transferred to the airport to begin your journey home. You will be taken by plane from Hanimandoo back to Male before boarding.
