Koror is your starting point for the Palau Expedition and after a check dive on the Helmet Wreck you sail south for Ngemelis. This area is thick with inspiring dive sites and wonderful names. Drift along the German Channel or feel daring as you hang over Big Drop Off. Barnum Wall is draped in corals and Turtle Cove will live up to its namesake. 3 days are spent in Ngemelis so you can see it from top to bottom before moving further south to Peleliu. This area was subject to fierce fighting in the Second World War and the land tour is a must to see for yourself the legacy. Diving delights at Peleliu Wall, the coral Garden and Orange Wall. 2 full days are spent in Peleliu so you can explore the creme de la creme of the diving at your leisure. Jellyfish lake is then your destination. This famous lake is quite unique in the world and well worth snorkeling to see for yourself. Ngerechong Island is equally impressive before the boat sails to Ulong. Ulong Channel is one of the best known dives in this area but is by no means the only spectacular site to see. The boat then makes it's final voyage back to Koror, stopping to dive at one of the many Japanese wrecks. Just like Truk, the Iro or Chuyo Maru are fabulous war wreck dives smothered in marine life, lying in testament to Palau's history.
The diving is diverse in Palau. The reefs are pristine with lavish soft coral covering every nook and cranny whilst whip corals trail into the blue waters. The Blue Hole and Turtle Cove stand out for their stunning scenery. Yet the marine life is no less alluring. Fish of every shape and colour adorn the reefs. Tuna, baracuda, snapper and squirrel fish are just some of the residents. Clownfish nestle in their anemones while napoleons weave amongst the sea fans. Big Drop Off and Blue Corner are famed for potentinal big fish sightings with grey reefs and white tips spotted on a regular basis. Leopard sharks can be found at German Channel which is also the place to hunt for manta rays. The wrecks of Palau are filled with life and historically interesting. Jellyfish lake and Chandelier Cave are 2 unique dive sites to Palau where the prevailing conditions have formed once in a life time experiences.
The Palau Expedition will suit just about everyone, irrespective of experience, thanks to the diverse and ever changing dive programme. Tick all the boxes as you dive reefs, wrecks, caves and drop offs. Some sites can be subject to some fast currents so some experience of drift diving is useful but other sites are well sheltered. Photographers will be drawn to the wide range of subjects, from macro to wide angle. Technical divers too are not forgotten and will enjoy long stops in the warm soothing waters.
The Palau Expedition sets sails on an extended voyage of discovery. Go further and see more of this wondrous watery nation from the luxurious comfort of your liveaboard. And when the day's diving is done, you can watch the golden sun sink over the azure horizon. Remote and secluded, escape on a scuba diving adventure that stands out for the quality of its dive sites and warm welcome.
