Mario Vitalini

Escorted Photography Holidays

Scuba travel have been running photography workshops since 2009.  In that time hundreds of divers have travelled the globe with us, visiting the world’s top diving destinations. We are delighted that Mario Vitalini will start to run photography escorted holidays with Scuba Travel in 2017. Mario is well know to Scuba Travel having been a guide on one of our Red Sea liveaboards as well as travelling with us to the majority of our destinations over the last 12 years!

Mario Vitalini

Mario has been involved in photography since his earliest years, starting on land. His first underwater camera was a Nikonos V in the late 1980s, and he’s been diving with a camera ever since.  The technology has come a long way since then!

He’s a certified PADI IDC Staff Instructor, and has thousands of logged hours teaching diving and sharing his passion for the world underwater.  As well as having worked in Colombia, Belize and Egypt, he’s travelled the globe in search of world class photo opportunities, but also had to make it work in some less than favourable conditions!  It’s not just about where you are, but how you approach the dive that makes for great underwater photography.  He’s well known for his patient, calm approach – he will help you develop new skills and build your confidence in a relaxed environment .  As well as helping you get to grips with underwater photography,

Mario’s areas of expertise include in kit selection and digital editing.  His innovative use of light and eye as an editor won him “Up and coming British Photographer of the Year” at UPY 2015.

Mario has a thorough understanding of modern camera systems and their use underwater; he is ideally placed to advise photographers on equipment that may initially seem complex. His own photography is grounded in a comprehensive knowledge of the principles that underpin light in the sea, which he presents in a series of informal talks that will prove useful to anyone with an underwater camera. His knowledge of Red Sea reefs in particular gives workshop participants a fuller insight into the layers of life and colour awaiting them. After years of guiding divers, he has a love for the sea evident in his own photography, and the way he communicates this passion to his guests.
