Prevention is the key to safeguarding the health of Sandals employees and our guests. They long ago developed a sophisticated approach to preventing the spread of illnesses at Sandals resorts under the guidance of medical professionals, the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO), and the local Ministries of Health in each country sandals resorts are located. Sandals have dedicated Quality Inspection Teams and environmental health and safety managers at all of their resorts to make sure every procedure is in place to protect every guest and team member. Sandals resorts have always been equipped with full-service medical stations staffed daily with a registered nurse and 24/7 on-call medical personnel, but they have now upgraded these facilities to include the appropriate equipment and supplies needed to address new protocols.

Antigua is around 8hrs 30mins hours direct flying time from London.

Covid Travel Information

Antigua is exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel. This is based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.

All passengers arriving by air to Antigua, including those transiting the country, must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 RT-PCR test taken no more than seven days before arrival.

Further health screening is in place at VC Bird International Airport for all international arrivals. The measures are subject to change but may include mandatory temperature and travel history checks, and further testing for Coronavirus. The local authorities may instruct you to enter government-provided quarantine.

Visitors instructed by the local authorities to take a Coronavirus test on arrival must pay a fee of US$ 100 or local equivalent in cash.

You should expect long waiting times on arrival.

You may not have to self-isolate when you arrive in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland, when you are travelling home from Antigua.

Weather and Climate

The best time to visit Antigua is between mid-December and mid-April (peak season), making it the perfect destination to escape wintery conditions in the US or Europe. A good secondary option is to go to Antigua in May or June, just before the wet season from July to November. Carnival is towards the end of July, so can be a great reason to travel off season.

There are direct flights from London to Antigua with BA, typically daily in the Winter and most days over the summer seasons. We are able to book most major airlines. If you have a specific airline you prefer to fly with, simply let us know in your booking request. A supplement may apply for regional departures. Times and any applicable supplements will be confirmed by your travel consultant before you finalise your holiday. If you wish to make your own flight arrangements to Antigua, let us know and we can remove the cost of the international flights from your quote. We are unfortunately not able to redeem airmiles on your behalf. Please do not confirm any flight arrangements yourself before your holiday is confirmed by us.

What happens when I arrive?

On arrival in Antigua, you will need to clear immigration and collect your baggage. You will then be met by a representative of Sandals Grande Antigua. They will be clearly identifiable at the airport. If you have any issues at all locating your rep, please contact us. We have an emergency contact, manned by a member of the team here in the UK. Transfers

We accept mastercard and visa debit or credit cards. Alternatively, you are welcome to pay via bank transfer. All non sterling card payments and UK business debit cards will be subject to the 2% surcharge. Overseas bank transfers must add £6 to the sterling total to cover international handling fees. We are not able to accept PayPal transactions.

Group Payments

If you have booked as part of a group, you can still call and pay directly without needing to go via your group leader. Please have your trip reference number to hand to help us locate your holiday as quickly as possible. At Sandals Resorts certified divers can dive every day at no extra change - twice a day with one tank or one two-tank dive, every day of your holiday.

The dive sites around the North of the island are ideal for new or less experienced divers, with a gentle sloping sea bed. Warm up with a dive on the Jettias Wreck, or the coral filled Mary Kay reef. Parrot fish, trumpet fish, snappers, creole wrasse and stingrays are common faces. Nurse sharks and turtles are often seen on the reefs,Experienced divers can head to the likes of Snappers Ledge and Chimney's Reef. Here the sea bed drops away. Drift between the blackjacks, angelfish, Atlantic bar fish, barracudas and Spanish mackerel.

JETTIAS WRECK

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 28ft | Max Depth: 100ft

Old French steam powered freighter sunk in 1817 and sits at a depth of 25'. The wreck is broken up into mainly the bow, the boiler, the engine and the stern. There is coral growth and lots of small fish surrounding it, including parrot fish, grunts, trumpet fish, blue tangs and Spanish hogfish. Occasionally a large barracuda puts in an appearance along with a large dog snapper.

MARY KAY REEF

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 45ft | Max Depth: 100ft

This is a very nice reef to navigate. This site is filled with an abundance of soft coral heads that brings lots of marine life, Also a spur and grove site with small ledges and undercuts. Lobsters, barracudas and lots of small fish are usually present. The occasional turtle and stingray put in an appearance.

MONKS HEAD

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 40ft | Max Depth: 60ft

Coral knoll with sandy patches at the top and bottom, Parrot fish, trumpet fish, snappers, creole wracks and southern stingray are usually seen on this beautiful reef dive site. The reef is in a circular formation, with the top being just sand and the reef on the circumference. This reef is also very good for seeing sting rays and also encountering a school of Atlantic spades from time to time.

SNAPPERS LEDGE

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 80ft | Max Depth: 80ft

Sank purposely for diving, it is about 30 ft long and 25 ft wide with a variety of pockets in barge forming homes for nurse sharks which are often being spotted.

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 45 | Max Depth: 50

Sank purposely for diving, it is about 30 ft long and 25 ft wide with a variety of pockets in barge forming homes for nurse sharks which are often being spotted.

Juniors reef

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 40ft | Max Depth: 50ft

This reef is filled with rock hinds, smaller coral heads with anemones and much more. A popular dive site for all levels.

Roads

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 30ft | Max Depth: 35ft

Reef is in the formation of roads with lots of coral heads and short pillars which is also a good spot for our sea turtles.

Kay Point Reef

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 40 | Max Depth: 50

This reef is in a circular formation with sea fans and barrel sponges and you'll normally be able to spot black tip and nurse sharks.

Pillars Reef

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 40ft | Max Depth: 50ft

This reef is basically shaped like fingers with lots of marine life. Good for spotting Flounders and Black Durgeons.

Pillars Reef

Skill level: Novice | Ave Depth: 30ft | Max Depth: 35ft

This nice sloping ridge runs about 150 ft in length and generally form homes for a variety of schooling fishes.

SNAPPERS LEDGE

Skill level: Advanced | Ave Depth: 80ft | Max Depth: 80ft

The ledge starts from 50 ft and slopes down to about 80 ft. And it forms homes for a variety of species like barracuda, Big Eye Jacks and Spanish Mackerel, which are often seen passing through.

CHIMNEYS REEF

Skill level: Advanced | Ave Depth: 80ft | Max Depth: 80ft

Dive site starts at 40' and gradually descends like stairs to below 80'. There is a hole in the rock face which comes out at the top of the ledge. Home for Blackjacks, angelfish, Atlantic spade fish, barracudas Nurse sharks occasionally rest in the chimney. This long extended reef is used for drift diving.

Rambo's Reef

Skill level: Advanced | Ave Depth: 60ft | Max Depth: 80ft

Lovely piece of ledge that extends about 100 ft in length also forms a nice valley on the way back. Some things to see while you're there are turtles, lobster, southern sting ray and a variety of tropical fishes.
