About Great Whites in Guadalupe

Great white sharks are one of nature's most impressive and most awe inspiring creations. And the chance to be in the water with great whites must rank on most adventurer's wish list. If you have are brave of heart, then make a bee line for the Great Whites of Guadalupe itinerary. Diver or non diver, you have a chance to come face to face with not just one, but many great whites on the adrenalin ride of a lifetime. But be warned, getting in the water anywhere else after this trip might seem a little bit tame!

The Great Whites of Guadalupe itinerary does just what it's name implies. From the decks of the luxurious Socorro Vortex or the legendary Solmar V the professional and highly experienced team will give full briefings and instructions so you can get in the water with the utmost safety. There are 2 ways to see great whites. For divers and non divers, there are 2 cages rigged to the deck which descend just below the surface. Air is supplied from the surface- no scuba here. Numbers are limited to 4 per cage. Just sit tight and wait for the sharks to come in close. Remember to breathe! If you are already certified you can also descend in the revolutionary submersible cage. This cage sinks to around 10m below the surface, gaining divers a wholly different perspective. This is a must see for photographers in particular.

Great Whites of Guadalupe runs from August to October each year. After embarking you sail to the remote and isolated Guadalupe island, 165 miles west of Mexico. Divers and non divers are welcome on board. Nature lovers will also enjoy the boat trip around Guadalupe Island itself, a critical resting spot for all manner of flora and fauna in the otherwise hostile waters of the Pacific.

Arrival

After arriving in San Diego you will be met and taken to a hotel for the night to refresh yourself after the flight. You will be met the next morning around 9:00 and taken to join the boat in Esenada, Mexico. This takes about 1 1/2 hours from the US-Mexico border. You will then embark.

Sail to Guadalupe

The journey to Guadalupe Island usually takes around 18 hours.

Diving with Great Whites

A typical Great Whites of Guadalupe itinerary includes 3 full days with the sharks. The cages are lowered into the water from sunrise to sunset so you have an opportunity to witness the sharks engage in various behaviours. During the day there is also a chance to jump into a rib to take an escorted tour around the island. The seals are a real highlight too.

Returning to reality

The boat will start the return journey to Mexico at sunset on your fourth day onboard. You will arrive back to land and make your return journey to San Diego by land. We recommend a further night in a hotel here to allow for any delays before you begin the return flight to the UK.
