There is nothing pedestrian about the diving on the Provo to Provo itinerary. Kick the week off at North Point West and you will quickly get a taster of what this trip is all about. And as the week goes on it just keeps getting better. French Cay is the undeniable star of this show and for most divers, the highlight of the week. The deep water channels that pass between the Caribbean and Atlantic intersect here so pelagics are seen aplenty. Want to see reef sharks? G Spot is the place to head for thrills. Turtles are common as are southern sting rays and nurse sharks, which mate in the shallow come late summer. Eagle rays are found on many sites but so are passing manta so keep your eyes open in the blue. That is if you can wrench them off the walls! Dripping in soft corals and enormous elephant ear sponges, the topography alone is impressive and healthy. Droves of snapper, jacks and tangs swarm across the reef. Lobsters and octopus shelter during the day under the many overhangs or crevasses cut into the reef.
The Provo to Provo itinerary is suitable for all experience levels but there are a lot of steep walls so good buoyancy control is essential. Incredible visibility and warm year round water guarantee good conditions whenever you visit although you can find some currents. Embarkation
Flights will usually be via the States into Provo. On arrival you will be met by a crew member who can assist with getting a taxi to the marina. Once on board, you can then settle into your cabin. Dinner is served and the Captain will give a welcome briefing.
North West Point
The diving around Provo is generally known as North West Point. and what a start to your trip! A check dive will help you get used to the diving and find correct weights. Shark Hotel is a deep plateau smothered in plate corals. A chimney cuts through, dropping down. The highlight at Black Coral Forest is an overhang and no less than 5 types of black coral to find. At The Crack the wall doglegs to create a space for divers to swim through. Turtles are nearly always seen here. Or why not try the Dome, good for chub and goat fish, or Stairway.
West Caicos
Elephant Ear canyon is home to the official largest elephant ear sponge and must be seen. At nearly 3m in width it is an impressive sight. Driveway is an exciting dive - drop over the wall, down a natural tunnel and you pop out in the middle of a ball of fish. On the reef top are anemones, cleaner shrimp and arrow crabs. This is an excellent spot for the night dive too.
Dive at the Gullies, where stunning sponge formations top the wall, and the Anchor, where a 17C anchor is wedged into the reef and covered in white anemones. Nurse sharks can be seen here. Whiteface is named after the white sandstone cliffs that make up the islands. A curious resident reef shark lives here and often comes in to check out divers. Rock Garden Interlude where the turtles this time come in to investigate divers. In face. many of the sites are wall dives here and all boast great chances of seeing sharks, rays or turtles. Sunday Service lies south of West Caicos and is the ideal stopping point en route to French Cay. Double D is one of the best dives in French Cay. There are 2 large coral mounds with what feels like millions of fish whirling around. The macro life is also excellent. Conditions permitting there will also be a night dive.
French Cay
Spend the whole day in French Cay. Due to the immense wealth of marine life, start the morning back at Double D and find all the bits you missed the first time! Look out for passing eagle rays. Head to Rock and Roll for your second dive before diving G Spot. This sumptuous wall is densely carpeted by gorgonians and giant sponges. There are nearly always reef sharks in the vicinity. This is often voted best dive of the week so jump back in in the afternoon to enjoy it all over again before heading to Half Mile for your final day dive. A sunrise dive in French Cay is a must to finish the week in style.
Disembarkation
The boat returns to harbour (2 hours sail) at approx 13:00. If you would like to go ashore for some shopping or sightseeing you are welcome to. There is a farewell cocktail party in the evening and dinner is ashore at a local restaurant (not included). Wake up to breakfast before departing the boat around 8:00. You will then be transferred to the airport for your return journey home.
