About Malapascua Exotic Island Dive Resort

Malapascua Island has an impressive reputation for such a small location. The diving in Malapascua is most famous for its thresher sharks. With their wealth of experience, the Exotic Resort has an exceptional track record at getting the best sightings of these elusive and shy sharks. Step ashore and forget your everyday stresses and strains. Take in the crystal turquoise waters that surround the Exotic resort and relax into a slower pace of life.

Tucked away on the northern most point of Cebu itself, the endless white beaches and lush tropical groves of Malapascua are only a short 30 minute boat ride from Maya jetty, which itself is about 3 1/2 hours from the international airport. The Exotic Resort is Malapsacua's original dive centre resort, and has not lost any of its charm as it has grown to provide an increasingly high standard and service. There are only 29 rooms on site, ranging from the simple standard rooms with private bathroom and balcony to the stunning super deluxe suites that can sleep up to 4 people in 2 rooms. Hot water in Malapascua can be provided by solar energy. Super deluxe rooms grades upwards have a better supply to round the clock hot water.

Don't miss out on the spa which offers every kind of massage treatment. And the restaurant serves a mouth watering selection of dishes, lovingly prepared by the excellent chefs. Exotic Resort also boasts wifi internet and 24 hour power supply - both of which are hard to find on Malapascua! With everything you could ever need on site, your every whim is catered for. So splash in and see for yourself why divers come back year after year to the Exotic Resort.

Diving was excellent owing to a well organised Dive Guide team, good facilities and 5:1 ratio of divers to Dive guides who knew where all the excellent sites with innumerable small creatures and corals to see. Rooms were basic but ample, air conditioning was welcomed and efficient and the food was excellent from a wide choice in a huge menu. Staff were wonderful, sense of humour, friendly, extremely good at their job and attentive to guests.

Brilliant place, lovely staff , great food , cocktails and excellent diving. Diving with the Thresher sharks even though you have to get up at 4.30am is amazing. Rooms fine , services every day . Beautiful beach outside with white sand and clear blue water. The people on the island are very friendly too.

A great trip with excellent organisation from the dive centre to overcome weather problems. The resort staff were very friendly, the rooms were large, clean and well equipped and the restaurant offered a wide range of excellent food and drink. Beach location beautiful. The staff in on-site dive centre were friendly and helpful and happy to juggle dive-sites to give me the most variety. Naturally the Thresher sharks were the high spot and I was lucky to see them on 6/6 dives. However, the other dives were also very good with small sharks, sea snakes, glittering shoals of mouth mackerel and enough macro life to please any photographer.† Highly Recommended

The beachfront resort is welcoming and the rooms are large, clean and well equipped. The restaurant offers a wide range of food and drink but its worth checking how half-board works. It's either just breakfast and dinner or a set expenditure which can include drinks. The onsite dive centre is well run and offers a wide variety of dives, including of course the spectacular thresher sharks. I pre-booked 20 dives but ended up doing 30 as the macro diving was so good and the guides were spotting things I had not seen after nearly 5000 dives. For variety, there are a large number of restaurant/bars along the beach and for cheap snacks and drinks it's worth venturing into the 'village' behind the beach.

The trip was amazing, truly enjoyed our time in Indonesia. We will definitely consider going back, besides the weather we still got to do loads of diving and make it worth our while. I can't thank you enough for helping arrange the holiday

If you don't know the meaning of hospitality. Try Exotic Dive Beach Resort. 2 thumbs up. I got a lot of tie-ups, however, they standout!... You will surely love to come back. Aside from the beautiful Island.

The first and largest diving resort on Malapascua Island really lives up to its reputation! Dive instructors and guides are really professional. Staffs at the restaurant are friendly and cheerful. Wide array of choices in the food and drink menu. Room is comfy and spacious, satellite tv programmes are available if you just want to chill in your room. The resort is facing east and great to take photos of sunrise if you are not doing the thresher shark dive. I will definitely choose this resort if I go back to Malapascua Island again.

The package put together by yourselves was as usual excellent, thanks very much for your time and effort. The help received from Georgina in dealing with the \"cold water\" issue once we had arrived at Malapascua was prompt. The rest of the holiday; diving, food, accommodation, staff and location were amazing. All ready looking on the website for our next trip!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

Location

The Philippines is around 15-20 hours flight from the UK. Although composed of 7,107 islands (7,108 at low tide), with a total coastline longer than that of the USA, most of the population of the Philippines lives on just 11 islands. Most travellers will enter the Philippines through Manila (MNL) or Cebu (CEB) airports. The reefs are spectacular in the Philippines, with plenty of fish list buzzing around. Moalboal, Bohol and Puerto Galera are all super locations for reef divers. Snorkel with whalesharks in Oslob. Thresher sharks have made Malapascua famous whilst Sangat is wreck heaven. Love macro? Make a beeline for Anilao or Dumaguete. The selection of critters rivals anything you could find in Indonesia.

Weather and Climate

The dry season in the Philippines runs from December to April, making it a popular time for divers. May and November are transitional months with air temperatures climbing. June to September is the wet season, as the weather becomes stormier. The Philippines dive resorts are typically well sheltered from the worst, but you can expect to experience rain showers.

Malapascua is a tiny island in the Philippines with a big reputation that is all too well deserved. A diving holiday in Malapascua mixes up big fish sightings with macro and muck diving against a backdrop of flourishing soft corals. The star of the show are the thresher sharks. Normally shy and elusive, the Exotic Resort has a proven track record for getting you closer and witnessing behaviours seldom seen before! Hammerheads and manta can also be seen. When you are not looking for the big fish, spend an hour or two on one of the many gorgeous reef dives.

Exotic Resort are proud to have been the first centre on the island to regularly dive with Malapascua's famous thresher sharks. They have even created a specialty focusing purely on these beautiful sharks. The dive centre has been recognised for their conservation efforts by the government and given a prestigious award to mark their hard work. Exotic Resort are the island's only 5* PADI IDC centre as well as well as being a fully technical resort with nitrox on tap too. So no matter what level of diver training you need, the hard working team will take you through to certification with a smile along the way.

  • 5* PADI IDC centre
  • DSAT Technical training
  • Thresher Shark distinctive specialty
  • House reef
  • Fleet of bancas & speedboat

Most divers will take their first breaths underwater at Malapascua on the house reef. Here there is plenty of marine life, with a gently sloping seabed. Dotted around you will find jeeps and artificial reefs that only draw yet more fish in. Soft corals grow in abundance. Certified divers will then normally move onto boat diving, with Monad Schoal and the lure of the thresher sharks calling. There are 6 boats on the ever expanding fleet. These are a range of traditional and stable bancas and speedboats. Dive sites are on average under 50 minutes from the resort but there are special trips arranged to the more remote Calangaman Island or Nunez Shoal.
