Wreck diving Holidays with

Mike Ward

Mike has been leading wreck diving safaris for Scuba Travel for almost twenty years and has built a solid following by providing guests with an improved diving experience. On a trip with Mike, you can expect to dive wrecks and more wrecks, and benefit at each site from his exhaustive knowledge of the wreck today, the historical background which led to the wrecking, and the diving conditions you’re likely to encounter.
If you’ve never dived the wrecks, you’ll get the perfect introduction, and if you have dived them before, then Mike will be happy to find you something new to experience. Each day of your trip, Mike will provide more background to the sites in a short, information-packed, and entertaining presentation on the wrecks or their historical context, to further enrich your experience.
Mike has a YouTube channel (Click here for Mikes You Tube Channel) where you can find videos of recent escorted trips and video dive plans for many of the wrecks.
Mike says he can’t really remember a time when he didn’t want to be a diver. He was given a copy of the Ladybird Book of Underwater Exploration for his seventh birthday by an uncle who didn’t know what he was stirring up, and after that, it was just a matter of time before he got his first snorkel, mask, and flippers (Yes, they really were called flippers back then) and finally joined the British Sub-Aqua Club. He quickly qualified as a BSAC Advanced Diver and Advanced Instructor and dived around the UK on club trips. A long liveaboard weekend out of Oban kick-started his preference for wreck diving (If you prefer fish, well, there are lots of fish on wrecks!) and a week up at Scapa Flow brought out his passion for understanding the how and why, the historical background, to the sites he was diving.

Mike’s Red Sea diving started thirty years ago, and it was the lack of accurate information on the wrecks that led to him researching the wrecks for himself. At the time, he was also writing for Diver magazine, both travel and humorous pieces, and a natural progression saw him develop the basic plan for his wreck trips.

Sangat Get Wrecked

Mike has escorted Scuba Travel wreck safaris to the Red Sea and elsewhere for twenty years and has gained a solid following for his remarkable breadth of knowledge and his entertaining and informative daily presentations bringing to life the rusty stuff beneath the surface, and it’s now time for a trip to the Phillipines and the fabulous wrecks of Coron. The Second World War in the Pacific was a brutal affair fought over thousands of miles, turning tranquil islands in an azure sea into combat zones and leaving behind shipwrecks by the score, military and civilian. The wrecks of Coron in the Philippines are a sunken memorial to one of the most significant moments of the whole of the Pacific War, and Mike will add to your trip, sharing his expertise and bringing their stories to life in his unique fashion as he puts them into their proper context, quite possibly as you sip a post-dive beverage!
