Itinerary Details

The Deep South itinerary dives Addu Atoll, Fuvahmulah Island, Huvadhu Atoll in the Maldives - a seasonal route from December to March

Deep South Description

Our Deep South itinerary will take you to down to the the southerly atolls in the Maldives on a liveaboard holiday that is anything but ordinary. Get in on the shark action of the secluded southern dive sites between Addu, Fuvamulah and Huvadhoo. Spend a week in isolated paradise as you dive these remote south atolls looking for the ocean's larger inhabitants - tiger sharks, silver tips, grey reef sharks and even whalesharks.

The best way to dive the southern atolls is to combine your liveaboard with a domestic flight. Some trips will include 2 domestic flights, please see individual trips for more details. Where trips do not include domestic flights, please speak to your travel consultant who will be able to book these.

On this itinerary you will dive Fuvamulah, Huvadhu and Addu atolls, with opportunities for drift dives, manta cleaning stations, and pelagic action. Prepare to come face to face with sharks. The lagoon inside Huvadhoo is one of the deepest in the Maldives and the shifting currents are ideal for shark sightings, including whalesharks, Silkies, hammerheads and grey sharks are all seen most weeks. Dive into world-class channels likes Vilingilli, Koodoo, Nilandhoo and Mareehaa ad explore the deep waters that house a plethora of marine life including dolphins, turtles, guitar fish and more. Fuvamulah is a predators playground with incredible marine encounters especially with Tiger, silky, silver tip and thresher sharks on the south plateaux. If you're lucky, you may also encounter rare sightings such as sailfish, mola mola (SunFish) and large schools of Tuna. These are the kind of sightings that will make your dive log stand out!

Discover the WW2 wreck, HMS British Loyalty, piece of history in Addu Atoll. Plus visit majestic manta cleaning stations at Maa Kandu and enjoy a relaxing drift dive at Demon corner, a perfect way to begin or end your trip.

On southern itineraries there are typically up to 3 dives a day and no night diving.

Due to the remote nature of the dive sites, the Deep South itinerary is for experienced divers (100+ dives) and there is a good focus on drift diving. The Deep South itinerary will suit any diver that has explored the north and central Maldives but not yet ventured this far south. Think you have dived the Maldives? Think again!

A note from Emperor Maldives and Carpe Diem Cruises: we believe in providing as authentic an experience with nature as possible. We do not believe it is appropriate to chum/bait for, nor feed, sharks and therefore will not dive or promote the experience known as Tiger Zoo in Fuvahmulah Atoll. We dive Fuvahmulah and regularly encounter Tiger Sharks there, as well as at other spots on our itineraries, and we believe these offer a far more natural experience.
