Stretching out over 200m of white sandy is Coral Eye - a unique dive resort on Bangka Island, North Sulawesi. Originally founded as an outpost for marine studies, today Coral Eye Bangka is a melting pot of passionate travellers, dive enthusiasts, underwater photographers and marine biologists. Coral Eye Bangka prides itself on the relaxing atmosphere, beautifully built by local craftsmen, employing local resources on Bangka Island - all just 90mins from Manado airport.

There are a total of 21 rooms and villas spread throughout the resort, interspersed with sandy paths and gardens. There are 7 superior rooms in and around the Marine Outpost building, all with en suite and can be set up as twin or double beds. Upgrade to either the beautiful garden view or beach view villas with their open air bathrooms. The 2 beachfront pool villas are set directly on the beach, with sweeping sea views and offers private access to the sand and 150m2 of indoor and outdoor space and a king bed.

The heart of the resort is the Beach Pavilion, home to the main restaurant, swimming pool and a breezy open-air veranda, the ideal place to unwind after a day of diving, snorkelling or island exploring. At the far end of the resort, the Marine Outpost sits alongside the dive centre, reflecting Coral Eye's roots in marine science. Additional communal spaces include a bar, small library and lounge, plus a large sea-facing terrace upstairs with panoramic ocean views. For deeper relaxation, visit the spa, offering traditional massages and natural treatments. Products are freshly handmade by your therapist using only natural ingredients.

Beyond the reef, there's plenty to discover on and around Bangka Island. Kayak through the mangroves, grab a stand up paddle board, or hike through Bangka Island's jungle. If you have longer, you can also visit Tangkoko's National Reserve park for the day - see the macaques, cuscus and even tiny tarsiers.

Coral Eye Bangka offers diving and snorkelling across a rich mix of habitats. Expect vibrant sloping reefs covered in hard corals, plus striking volcanic pinnacles dressed in soft corals and teeming with reef life. Elsewhere, Bangka's sandy sites are a dream for macro enthusiasts including pockets of black volcanic sand that echo the muck diving style of the Lembeh Strait, where rare, unusual and perfectly camouflaged critters can often be found.

For even more diversity, explore the island's mangrove shallows, where juvenile fish and small invertebrates shelter among the roots, and the seagrass beds just offshore, an important feeding grounds that can attract species such as dugongs, adding another layer to Bangka's remarkable ecosystem.

The on-site dive centre runs snorkelling excursions, guided dives, and a full range of courses from beginner to professional level. Bangka Island is particularly celebrated for its soft coral slopes, while its macro-rich sand patches offer excellent critter-spotting for photographers and keen-eyed divers. Many sites are also suitable for snorkellers, making it easy for non-divers to enjoy the same marine scenery.
