About Whirlwind

Whirlwind has to be one of our favourite Red Sea liveaboards, from the award winning Tornado Marine Fleet. This is 5 star Red Sea diving at affordable prices, with weekly departures in 2019 from May to October. (April to November in 2020) She is one of the most popular boats in the fleet, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you step on board you can tell this liveaboard has been designed by divers for divers. Her long standing crew are the definition of attentive and make the diving effortless.

Whirlwind is a generous 36m from bow to stern and at 8m across, there is ample space for all 20 guests. There are 10 cabins in total, all with twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. Fancy a view as you sail? There are 4 cabins on the main deck which are pre-allocated at the time of booking with no additional surcharge. On request for full charter bookings, an additional 11th twin cabin can be opened up.

Whirlwind has everything you could want on board. The dive deck is one of the most impressive aspects - no more kitting up in a crowd on this boat! There is a camera table, 2 rinse tanks and plenty of space for all your dive kit. Relax between dives on one of the large sundecks. The saloon welcomes you with comfy sofas, an entertainment system and a well stocked bar. Meals are served in a dining room, and the cafe style table layout creates a friendly ambience. From sun up to sun down, Whirlwind is the perfect home away from home in the Egyptian Red Sea.

It's no wonder so many of our specialist itinerary leaders ask for Whirlwind year after year. Whirlwind runs photography workshops, escorted wreck weeks, dedicated freediving trips and our custom Red Sea Relaxed itinerary throughout the year. Rebreather divers can be accommodated, but please speak to your consultant at the time of booking to discuss any specific guiding, kit hire and fill requrements.

Main deck cabin

Whirlwind has four main deck twin cabins, located in the front half of the main deck. These cabins have lovely big rectangular windows facing the ocean. All cabins onboard Whirlwind have twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. There is no surcharge for the main deck cabins.

Lower deck cabin

Whirlwind has seven lower deck cabins, they are slightly larger than the main deck cabins and have a port whole window. All cabins onboard Whirlwind have twin beds, en suite, air con and safe.

Single cabins

Whirlwind has 12 cabins and so can hold 24 guests. However we prefer to have a maximum of 22 and therefore 2 cabins are available for single occupancy on request

This is my third trip on Whirlwind. A great week with an amazing crew, nothing is too much trouble for them. This boat is like a floating hotel.

    2020-03-06 11:25:11

WOW, first ever time on a liveaboard and given what experience we have had this will not be our last! We didn't know what to expect but this has far exceeded our expectations

Crew excellent as always and maintain boat well. Everything consistent, cabins clean, salon clean, dive deck areas clean and organised. No issues.

    2019-10-27 14:15:11

Very Clean and well organised. Cabin of high standard and bathroom always immaculate. Dive deck and ribs in good condition. First hire regulator was of poor standard and needed a good service but the dive guides responded quickly and replaced immediately.

Excellent variety, quality and quantity. Freshly prepared, plenty of healthy food options and gave us lots of energy for our dives.

    2019-10-27 14:01:11

Both dive guides have given excellent service. Dive briefs have been complete and comprehensive so no one was in any doubt about what woild be expected on the dive. Initial briefing on the boat and general dive conduct and expectations was very good, setting the tone for the rest of the week. With a boat full of experienced divers, the guides could take time to make sure the little things were covered but allowed the divers the freedom to do their own dives. All in all , supportive and helpful all week. Crew members were all happy, helpful and on hand when needed. Kitting up, getting into and out of Zodiacs, climbing ladders back onto the dive deck was always made as effortless as possible. Zodiac drivers especially need a mention for the support given when divers returned to the zodiac, especially us older divers. crew in the dining room again( meonmdouh especially) upheld the high standards I have come to expect from Tornado Marine. Having been on Mistral, Cyclone and Hurricane, I

    2019-10-26 14:25:11

Excellent, well up to the standards I have come to expect from Tornado Marine. As usual the cabins are well laid out and kept spotlessly clean all week, dining room is comfortable for meals but chairs are quite low for dining. Endless supplies to tea, coffee and soft drinks are always a good feature; Dive deck is well laid out and fits 20 divers easily. All in all a boat that is a credit to tornado marine.

Guides were outstanding, helpful and considerate throughout the week. Briefings were thorough, well detailed and the supporting media presentations were well prepared. Only comment would be that I felt awkward and disrespectful diving the Salem Express and would be happier having missed that dive. Boat/dive crew were also exceptionally good, nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to make sure that they offered the maximum assistance both at the beginning and end of each dive. The hot chocolate after the dives was particularly welcome.

The boat is ace. Great facilities, great snacks and is always well stocked. Need opening windows in the bathrooms
Guides are great, always welcoming and willing to give you the time that is needed. The crew cannot do enough to help and are a real compliment to the company. All round great experience.
The food cannot be faulted. Always willing to help with dietary requirements and every meal is as tasty as the next

    2019-10-04 09:21:11

The boat is very nice, well maintained and spacious. The decoration is very elegant. The boat is well stocked with amenities and supplies.
NealeshThe food is very good quality: Tailored to the needs of the guests. If you may miss a meal, someone will come and inform you. The food is fresh daily, well cooked and plentiful.
The guides and crew provide an outstanding level of service: The dive briefings are detailed, and well supported. The supporting crew are very helpful and efficient. They are very approachable and resolve any issues rapidly.

After a break of over 15 years from diving in the Red Sea, due to over crowding, I was surprised to see that the reefs and the marine life have survived so well. The Guides on Whirlwind were very concerned about the health of the marine environment, and if this is now the custom with all dive guides in the Red Sea, then there is a future in diving the off shore wrecks and reefs. However closer to Hugarda port, and the coastal resorts, you can see the pollution in the water from all the boat traffic. I had a very relaxing week onboard Whirlwind, and enjoyed the diving, even if the Thistlegorm is looking a bit tired of all the diver traffic. Whirlwind as a Dive boat is begining to show its age, but the crew made us all feel very comfortable. This is impressive as most of the crew and one of the guides were in the middle of Ramadam, which I know is a very tiring time for those fasting. I would probably travel again on Whirlwind, perhaps to the Southern reefs.

Always liked diving with Tornado marine, the crew on Whirlwind made us feel very welcome & were always on hand to help around the boat & dive deck.
