About Whirlwind

Whirlwind has to be one of our favourite Red Sea liveaboards - and as the award winning Liveaboard of the Year 2011 clearly fellow divers share our affection for her. This is 5 star Red Sea diving at affordable prices... just one of the reasons UK divers keep coming back to this superior liveaboard. She has a well deserved reputation for the quality of finish on board, her long standing crew are the definition of attentive and she has all the award winning hallmarks of Tornado Marine fleet (from the decor to the tasty food)! Discover today how effortless diving can be when your liveaboard has been designed by divers for divers.

Whirlwind is a generous 36m from bow to stern and at 8m across, there is ample space for all 20 guests. There are 10 cabins in total, all with twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. The storage is plentiful and the showers are some of the most powerful you will find on a boat! There are 4 cabins on the main deck which are preallocated at the time of booking with no additional surcharge.

Whirlwind has everything the modern diver could want on board. The dive deck is one of the most impressive aspects - no more kitting up in a crowd on this boat! There is a camera table, 2 rinse tanks and plenty of space for all your dive kit. Whirlwind is also rebreather friendly and can pump oxygene and helium mixes (please just let us know at the time of booking). And for your relaxation between dives, there are 2 sundecks and the jacuzzi. Catch some rays, relax with a book or enjoy the hot tub. The saloon is kitted out with a modern entertainment system and a well stocked bar. Quite simply no element of this liveaboard has been overlooked. From sun up to sun down, Whirlwind is the perfect home away from home in the Egyptian Red Sea.

Main deck cabin

Whirlwind has four main deck twin cabins, located in the front half of the main deck. These cabins have lovely big rectangular windows facing the ocean. All cabins onboard Whirlwind have twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. There is no surcharge for the main deck cabins.

We have been on this boat before and lovely as always. Well maintained and clean. Nice to meet some old friends on the crew, captain and guide. They all gave us an excellent service as always so deserved to win best boat. Yassers briefings were very informative. They all made the week very enjoyable and look forward to meeting them all again. We are fussy eaters but there was always plenty to eat so will be going home a few pounds heavier.

This boat is beautiful, the communal areas are great indoor and out, and felt at home immediately in a luxury yacht, which is a real treat. I could not have asked for a better guide than Yasser, he was very attentive and his briefings were so informative, about the history of the wreck and the dive plans. The Crew were so helpful, with our kit, in and out of the water, getting us safely through the week, and all with a smile on their faces. Diving the Thistlegorm at night was the Best dive of my life - only 5 divers in total! Was apprehensive to go inside but Yasser made us feel relaxed at night, then with the torches and the light it was beautiful.

Boat was great, always clean and tidy. Felt like a home from home. Yasser was brilliant, our first time in the red sea he made sure we were briefed and ready to dive and saw the best of every site. Crew were also very attentive and friendly, a great group of people. Food was good and plentiful. Always snacks and drinks available, very hard to go hungry.

A great boat for scuba divers. All facilities are good, lots of space. Good briefing room with TV facilities. The crew works as a team, great to see this. Everyone is very helpful, friendly, polite, hard working (especially given the open deck policy). The guides are brilliant, professional, knowledgeable and passionate about diving.

The boat was very tidy and clean and very well kept both on the inside and the outside. The good size dive deck was well set up and provided very easy kitting up and entry into the water. The saloon areas were very comfortable and the eating area was very well set up for the buffet. Cabins were kept clean and tidy and bathrooms cleaned every day. There were ample sockets for charging items. The zodiac procedures were well planned and executed and this made getting in and out of the Zodiac very simple and stress free. The guide was very knowledgeable. He gave very good briefings and the PowerPoint presentations which were used made it very simple to understand the dive sites. He was a good laugh and made the holiday very enjoyable.

It was an amazing experience, the boats accommodation, cleanliness, comfort and condition was excellent. Every possible effort was made to make the week thoroughly enjoyable, and at a standard comparable to any high standard hotel. The boat is extremely spacious in all cabins and in general areas such as the saloon, dining area and dive deck. Any minor servicing issues, which were rare, were dealt with immediately and easily. The boat provided a great diving platform and was a very high standard. A big thanks to Mohammed and Adel in looking after us in every aspect of our accommodation and dining provisions. The dives guides Kareem and Ahmed were truly professional and thoughtful throughout, and had immense knowledge of the dive sites, and were always keen to tailor the dive plan to help us achieve our needs. Always eager to provide help and assistance in any aspect of our diving week. These guys are a true asset we could not praise them enough in making this a truly memorable week.

Food wonderful as always - Osama works magic in that little galley. We like the fact that its not all European food and the taste of Egypt was welcome

This was the most relaxed of the 6 liveaboards I've been on. Matt, Adel and the crew effortlessly got it so right plus the boat was comfortable and spacious. The hammerheads off Jackson were the icing on the cake. Stuart.

Dive guides Matt & Adel were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble at all and they were always happy to accommodate anything extra we wanted to do. I really hope we get to dive with them again.

The food was delicious, varied and constantly supplied. Fresh salads and fruit were available everyday as well as freshly made cakes and pastries. A week of excellent meals thank you.

2016-08-01 10:14:24

The boat is awesome, really spacious with plenty of places to sit back and enjoy the sun. Wifi was sometimes available which was a nice bonus. Rooms were a good size and had everything you would need for a comfortable stay.

Fantastic boat. First impressions were very positive and remained that for the holiday. The crew were absolutely amazing and really made the holiday special. They all individually went out their way to create a unique experience and very friendly. First holiday to experience such professionalism with friendliness

2016-07-19 10:07:00

Great crew as always. Special mention for great dive briefings, thorough and informative. Also, clearly understood requirements of photographers

2016-07-19 10:06:24

The crew, as ever, could not be more friendly and helpful. Some of them are old faces and have worked on the boat for many years. The dive briefings were excellent and, although i have been here many times, for once I learnt something new about some of the sites.

2016-07-19 10:03:30

The guides and crew were excellent as always. Friendly and helpful with great briefings. They were excellent in giving the less experienced in the group and alternative dive if they did want to dive a particular dive site.

2016-07-19 10:02:58

The food was delicious every day, had variety and was never repetitive which was really nice. The chef was kind enough to make us a cake to celebrate people passing their courses which was a lovely thing to do for us.

As i've come to expect from the Tornado fleet the crew and guide were all superb. Very friendly and professional and always there to help. Guiding from Yasser was as usual first class and his attention to safety and protecting the environment was excellent.
