About Whirlwind

Whirlwind has to be one of our favourite Red Sea liveaboards, from the award winning Tornado Marine Fleet. This is 5 star Red Sea diving at affordable prices, with weekly departures in 2019 from May to October. (April to November in 2020) She is one of the most popular boats in the fleet, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you step on board you can tell this liveaboard has been designed by divers for divers. Her long standing crew are the definition of attentive and make the diving effortless.

Whirlwind is a generous 36m from bow to stern and at 8m across, there is ample space for all 20 guests. There are 10 cabins in total, all with twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. Fancy a view as you sail? There are 4 cabins on the main deck which are pre-allocated at the time of booking with no additional surcharge. On request for full charter bookings, an additional 11th twin cabin can be opened up.

Whirlwind has everything you could want on board. The dive deck is one of the most impressive aspects - no more kitting up in a crowd on this boat! There is a camera table, 2 rinse tanks and plenty of space for all your dive kit. Relax between dives on one of the large sundecks. The saloon welcomes you with comfy sofas, an entertainment system and a well stocked bar. Meals are served in a dining room, and the cafe style table layout creates a friendly ambience. From sun up to sun down, Whirlwind is the perfect home away from home in the Egyptian Red Sea.

It's no wonder so many of our specialist itinerary leaders ask for Whirlwind year after year. Whirlwind runs photography workshops, escorted wreck weeks, dedicated freediving trips and our custom Red Sea Relaxed itinerary throughout the year. Rebreather divers can be accommodated, but please speak to your consultant at the time of booking to discuss any specific guiding, kit hire and fill requrements.

Main deck cabin

Whirlwind has four main deck twin cabins, located in the front half of the main deck. These cabins have lovely big rectangular windows facing the ocean. All cabins onboard Whirlwind have twin beds, en suite, air con and safe. There is no surcharge for the main deck cabins.

Lower deck cabin

Whirlwind has seven lower deck cabins, they are slightly larger than the main deck cabins and have a port whole window. All cabins onboard Whirlwind have twin beds, en suite, air con and safe.

Single cabins

Whirlwind has 12 cabins and so can hold 24 guests. However we prefer to have a maximum of 22 and therefore 2 cabins are available for single occupancy on request

A great week - I've followed this itinerary twice before & it doesn't disappoint. The boat crew were very attentive, always on hand to assist (particularly on the dive deck) and the guides were both knowledgeable & helpful.

Hi Melissa, I wanted to thank you for all you help with what turned out to be a fantastic holiday on the Whirlwind. Great boat, great crew and great set of guests to share it with.
I really enjoyed it and hope to book at some point for next year - not sure whether I'll do North or South yet! Thanks again.

After a break of over 15 years from diving in the Red Sea, due to over crowding, I was surprised to see that the reefs and the marine life have survived so well. The Guides on Whirlwind were very concerned about the health of the marine environment, and if this is now the custom with all dive guides in the Red Sea, then there is a future in diving the off shore wrecks and reefs. However closer to Hugarda port, and the coastal resorts, you can see the pollution in the water from all the boat traffic. I had a very relaxing week onboard Whirlwind, and enjoyed the diving, even if the Thistlegorm is looking a bit tired of all the diver traffic. Whirlwind as a Dive boat is begining to show its age, but the crew made us all feel very comfortable. This is impressive as most of the crew and one of the guides were in the middle of Ramadam, which I know is a very tiring time for those fasting. I would probably travel again on Whirlwind, perhaps to the Southern reefs.

Just a quick email to say I had a great trip on whirlwind to the northern wrecks and reefs. The cabin was large and roomy and the crew and food really good. Plus the guides were excellent, really througher, but fun and with a good emphasis on safety, and will be definitely looking at more trips with yourselves. Thanks for your help with getting it booked!

Very nice boat, lots of areas to relax between dives. Any issues with cabin quickly fixed. Nice to have air conditioning in rooms. Reda was great, and i enjoyed Emmas instruction on the try freediving course. Adel was fine. Boat crew were great, very friendly and helpful. I liked having tank refilled after each dive as it made setting up kit much easier each time. Saloon guys were great, and remembered preferences about drinks after diving. Very nice chef very accommodating of vegetarian diet, and personal preferences with food.

Great boat, it is my first liveaboard and I was pleasantly surprised with all the facilities and sun decks and really enjoyed it. The crew were brilliant! They were all very helpful when getting kitted up and in and out of the boats, and the cabin staff were really good at asking what food I or did not like at meal times. The dive guides were good too and the briefings were spot on.

Firstly, just wanted to say thank you to everyone at Scuba Travel and to Tornado team for proving such an amazing holiday. It was the best week of my life, bar none the organisation, the diving, to environment, food, staff, facilities - everything. The team on board just seem to keep everything running so smoothly and it is so relaxing compared to UK diving. I am most grateful, my work life is very intense and this was a great antidote - I have never had anything like it before. And of course, I cannot wait to do it again....

Whirlwind maintains Tornados high standards providing a comfortable, luxurious environment which is much appreciated. Attentive, considerate and friendly crew made the week far more enjoyable, I really appreciated all the help I received getting into and out of the boat. Food could not be faulted, plentiful, varied and nicely cooked and well presented.

The crew are the best in the fleet by far, have a great sense of humour and always game for a laugh. Very professional in their duties..... a credit to Tornado Fleet. The guides have been exceptional and my previous reservations (noted by Tornado and Scuba travel) have been more than expunged. It has been a pleasure to be part of this trip, the guides could not do enough to make our holiday spectacular.

The boat is very nice and comfortable, it was kept clean and tidy throughout the week. The cabin (10) was clean comfortable with no problems. The crew were great and very helpful, they were always smiling and laughing and keeping everyone entertained. The guides were very good and knowledgeable and the briefings were clear and informative.

The boat is great, it has plenty of space for the divers and their gear, kitting up and dekitting is no hassle at all, there is plenty of room to relax, whether that's inside or outside and the cabins have their own shower. The guides were very good, they gave really good dive briefs and went into some very interesting history about the dives, and covered everything that we needed to know. The crew are very friendly and helpful. Every single dive they are there to help you with your dive kit and to help you out of the water. Everyday the cabins and bathroom are cleaned and maintained, which is really nice.
