The NEW, elegant & spacious 16-passenger M/V Tiburon Explorer Galapagos diving liveaboard provides 9 air-conditioned staterooms located on the main and lower decks; all of which have private bathrooms and ocean views. All nine cabins have twin beds and the cabins can be converted to queen beds for couples. The yacht features partially covered sun deck with a jacuzzi and ample seating, salon area with dining, bar and entertainment area.

The Tiburon Explorer Galapagos diving liveaboard large dive deck includes a bathroom, large camera table with charging station, individual storage areas, rinse bins for cameras and another for gear. Diving operations are conducted from two large pangas (tenders), easily boarded from the dive deck.

Main deck cabin

The Main Deck features four guest cabins, 1-4, each with private bath and shower, air-conditioning, ample storage and large windows providing guests with amazing ocean views. The dining area, lounge/entertainment area, bar and large dive deck are also located on the Main Deck.

Lower deck cabins

The Lower Deck comprises five cabins, 5-8, each with private bath and shower, air-conditioning, port windows and ample storage.

Safety will continue to be our first priority as we navigate travel in the era of Covid-19. We've developed a Booking Assurance program to help you make a confident decision to travel with us, which includes risk-free and flexible booking terms and a personalized reservations process from start to finish. In addition, upgraded health and safety procedures help keep you protected during your entire time on board; we've added more robust screening, sanitizing, cleaning, distancing, and monitoring protocols so you can have peace of mind while relaxing on our spacious sundeck or diving alongside a turtle.

For the last 33 years, Explorer Ventures has researched, implemented and strengthened safety protocols to ensure that our guests are able to enjoy their diving vacation. In preparation for welcoming guests back to our operations in the Caribbean, the company will further augment our practices and improve on health and safety measures that address changing client expectations amidst COVID-19. The following information is based on what we know today - but best practices and the information on which they are based change rapidly, and we intend for our plans to be fluid enough to accommodate new information. We will continue to monitor the latest trends and will adapt our operations and this document based on new insights and our experiences, and refine this plan not only in the Caribbean but in Galapagos and with our other partners worldwide.

Sustainable operations are always at the forefront of our minds, and where possible we're sourcing suitable cleaning agents that are either environmentally friendly or can be neutralized prior to disposal. Environmental consciousness is at the heart of what we do but keeping everyone safe takes precedence for the time being for obvious reasons!

Our crew members have been working hard to prepare for our guests' arrival. Our new operational protocols will include several pre-emptive cleanliness measures that affect the guest's journey from arrival to departure, including additional health and well-being requirements across all points of contact on the vessels.

Crew are being trained in appropriate Covid-19 cleaning and disinfection procedures from accredited organizations.

COVID-19 CLEANING & DISINFECTION POLICIES:

A Pre-travel questionnaire/assessment is being developed for all our guests to complete that will give our crews and our other guests added confidence in their health at the time of boarding.
Operational Evaluation: We have completed an assessment of points of guest contact, resulting in the integration of hygiene practices across key points - starting from the moment guests arrive at the gangway through the entirety of their onboard vacation experience. These points include the salons, guest rooms, galley, food and beverage experiences, housekeeping and laundry, public bathrooms, dive deck and dive platform.
Crew are being trained in appropriate Covid-19 cleaning and disinfection procedures from accredited organizations.
Cleaning, disinfection and sanitation will be repeated multiple times daily, with a minimum of three inspections daily. These inspections and targeted cleaning steps include hard surfaces such as door handles and handrails and include public restrooms, salon tables, and chairs as well as other high-touch surfaces.
Interior areas of the vessels will be fogged regularly with disinfectant.
Daily room cleaning and service will be done with gloves and mask and will be stressed as optional if guests would prefer not to have others in their room at all. As always, staterooms are cleaned thoroughly between charters. Additional hand sanitizing stations will be provided for guests and crew members throughout the vessels.
The guest dining experience will be modified to limit contact points of normal buffet service. Servers will wear gloves and masks during all meal services. Any guest who chooses not to eat with the group in the salon may have the meal served on the sun deck. Guests will be asked to wash hands before meals.
Guest welcome and daily briefings will include reminders on best practices for avoiding illness, if necessary.
Social Distancing Practices will be encouraged so that guests maintain a safe social distance whenever possible while sustaining the relaxed experience our trips are known for. This will include spacing guests out on the dive deck as much as possible, asking that guests keep control of regulators and masks on the way to the exits and on the way to their lockers upon returning from their dives, and replacing handshakes with a nod and a smile.
To help ensure that all team members stay healthy, all staff will be required to wear face masks during check-in, when screening guest temperatures, during meal service, when off the vessel and at other times as may be necessary. We will encourage guests to do the same as far as is practical and will have masks made from recycled ocean plastics available on board.
Precautionary temperature and oxygen checks for both crew and guests may be done daily or per current recommendations.
Vendors and suppliers will be required to have minimal physical contact, and we will sanitize all touchpoints, including equipment, and remove all outer packing upon arrival.
We are working with our shore support companies to ensure that transfers are done in accordance with new recommendations for cleanliness and decontamination. For tours, where that is not possible, certain stops may be eliminated or the tour eliminated altogether. The Friday night dinners ashore will be planned to accommodate new cleanliness expectations.
Mask rinse tanks are being eliminated in favor of running water rinses.
Gear rinse tanks will be treated to avoid cross-contamination of dive gear.
Our dive towel system is being reviewed to limit the potential for cross-contamination.
Rental gear availability may be limited by the availability of appropriate sanitizing agents
As always, careful cleaning and sanitizing of linens and towels is a priority
In addition, we are considering the feasibility of altering our operations in certain ways to increase the space between guests at mealtimes, on the dive deck and during briefings.

WHAT WILL THIS ALL MEAN?

Some of these altered procedures may temporarily impact the level of customer service, guest interaction and accommodation for which the Explorer Ventures Fleet is known. While each vessel and operation is different, some challenges are universal and our vessels have room for only a certain number of crew and guests. These additional crew responsibilities may limit their time available with guests. While our goal remains to deliver an exceptionally good experience to every guest, returning to diving will require flexibility on the part of both guests and crew.

SAFE TRAVELS TO THE GALAPAGOS

Every government has established health and safety protocols that are mandatory for all hotels and restaurants. Our operations team will be specifically monitoring our partners' adherence to these protocols with spot checks. Our Costs and Negotiations team is asking for protocol compliance and affidavits before including them as options for our guests.

Location

It usually takes around 16 hours flying time to reach Guayaquil - this is your gateway to the Galapagos islands. The flight from Guayaquil to San Cristobal is then around 2 hours. The Galapagos has year round big fish. It's most famous for the schooling hammerheads, but from December to May, Manta Season is the “warm season” for Galapagos diving. Air temperatures go up a few degrees, but typically the water at Wolf and Darwin Islands will be anywhere from 25-27C. Despite the warmth, visibility is also usually the best Galapagos has to offer during Manta Season. Between June and November, the number of whaleshark encounters increases dramatically.

The Galapagos has good weather all year round. The weather is not normally too wet (inspite of its equatorial location), with the dry season running from Jul - Dec and the warm season from Jan - Jun. Temps range from 21-30C.

Flight options

Our holidays to the Galapagos can be quoted with most major airlines from Heathrow to Guayaquil or Quito. We are able to book most major airlines. If you would like to depart from a different UK airport (eg. Glasgow/Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham or Gatwick) or have a specific airline you prefer to fly with, simply let us know in your booking request. Times and any applicable costs will be confirmed by your travel consultant before you finalise your holiday. If you wish to make your own flight arrangements to Guayaquil, let us know and we can remove the cost of the international flights from your quote. We are unfortunately not able to redeem airmiles on your behalf. Please do not confirm any flight arrangements yourself before your holiday is confirmed by us.

Stopovers

As there are no direct flight, it is simple to add a stop over en route - simply ask your travel consultant for a quote. Popular locations include the USA, Amsterdam or Madrid.

Visa requirements

UK passport holders are able to obtain a free 90 day tourist visa on arrival. Do ensure your passport has 6 months validity from your return date to prevent any issues with immigration. Insurance

Scuba Travel requires all of our customers to have diving insurance. Please make sure that you have appropriate cover for your diving activities. We also strongly recommend you have travel insurance. It's worth taking out travel insurance once you have paid your deposit to ensure you are covered for unforeseen events and cancellation. Preparing to fly

Seating

You will be able to manage your booking online once you have been ticketed (after you have paid your holiday balance). Most airlines will now enable you to select your seating at this point. There may be a small charge for prebookable seating before online check in opens. Please speak to the airline for more information about charges.

What happens when I arrive?

On arrival to the Ecuador mainland, you will need to clear immigration and collect your baggage. You will then be met outside of arrivals by a representative. They will be holding a board with either your destination or your name on it. If you have any issues at all locating your rep, please contact us. We have an emergency contact, manned by a member of the team here in the UK. Please call 0044 7747 488 002. We will be able to help your rep locate you in the airport.

Transfers

Quito airport is around 1 hour by car from Quito city. Guayaquil airport is closer to the city, and transfers to your hotel are usually no more than 30mins. You will be advised locally of your pick up time for your return to the airport and flight to the Galapagos Islands. The flying time is around 2 hours between Guayaquil and San Cristobal

Departures

At the end of your holiday, your return transfer details will be advised locally. On leaving the Ecuador there is an departure tax of $30-$40 which must be paid in cash.

Tipping

Crew gratuities are not included in your package. The boats own suggestions in regards to crew gratuities (if of course you are happy with the service which you have received) on dive trips in Galapagosis between 10% and 15% of the package price per passenger. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.

Currency

The U.S. dollar is Ecuador’s standard currency. We strongly recommend taking cash USD to the Galapagos for gratuities and onboard charges are best paid in cash. This avoids any additional Ecuadorian taxes and service fees. Credit cards are subject to the 14% VAT plus 5% in bank fees.

Phone coverage

Very limited, private calls might be made from the yacht by satellite phone with the crews permission.

Plugs and electricity

110 volts AC, 60Hz. Plugs used are American-style (two perpendicular flat blades above a circular grounding pin) and Japanese-style (two perpendicular flat blades). It’s advisable to take an adaptor. We also highly recommend that you take a surge adaptor with you if using expensive and valuable appliances.

Extras

Hire equipment

We recommend all divers bring their own mask, gloves, booties, fins, hood or hooded vest and computer. A personal wetsuit is also a good idea if you have space. Diving in Galapagos can be challenging and it is important that you are comfortable with the equipment you dive with.

Galapagos National Park fee: $155 (inc Hyperbaric Chamber fee & Tourist transit card). Option to prepay fuel surcharge and nitrox.

Souvenirs

No souvenirs are included in the price, but there will be souvenirs available locally.

Nitrox/Gas

Nitrox is currently 150USD and can be paid either locally on the boat or prepaid.

Deposits and Balances

Normally from around £1000 deposit with full balance paid 90 days before departure. Special payment conditions apply to this booking. Your travel consultant will confirm the deposit required to secure your booking. All deposits and interim payments (where required) are non refundable. Cancellation at any stage will be with full loss of all monies paid to date.

Ways to pay

We accept mastercard and visa debit or credit cards. Alternatively, you are welcome to pay via bank transfer. All non sterling card payments and UK business debit cards will be subject to the 2% surcharge. Overseas bank transfers must add £6 to the sterling total to cover international handling fees. We are not able to accept PayPal transactions.

Group Payments

If you have booked as part of a group, you can still call and pay directly without needing to go via your group leader. Please have your trip reference number to hand to help us locate your holiday as quickly as possible. You will receive a transaction receipt - your group leader will forward your ATOL certificate and booking confirmation
